In September 2004, we had planned to visit Florida.  Hurricane Jeanne had other plans, so we vacationed at Fairfield Bay, Arkansas instead.  It is located in the heart of north central Arkansas, approximately 1 hour north of the state capitol of Little Rock.  Besides golf, 40,000 acre Greer's Ferry Lake is one of the main attractions.

Blanchard Springs Caverns are about a 90 minute drive, but well worth it.  It's hard to imagine the size of the rooms just looking at these pictures, but see the tiny handrails in the bottom right of the picture on the left below?  That will help you see the scale of the caverns' rooms about 265 feet below ground.

We rode a ferry to the island of Sugarloaf Mountain.  The climb to the top was not too tough, but we had to slide down part of the way on the other side.

Julie sits at the top of the stairway that helped reach the top of the mountain.

We even found a cactus plant growing at the mountain top.

There were many dirt roads throughout the resort...evidence of planned expansion.  We used them for morning jogs.

A beautiful kitty adopted us for a couple of days, and even enjoyed taking naps in our condo.

The sunsets over the Ozarks were fabulous.
