What are designer dogs?
Plain and simple: they are mutts, mixed breeds, cross breeds, or whatever you wish to call them.
Many unscrupulous people are catching on to the fact that some folks are willing to spend a lot of money on a designer dog breed, such as a Labradoodle or Goldendoodle, if they can simply be convinced that the puppy they take home will not cause a family member to have an allergic reaction to the pet. Think back to your high school science class....remember those first-generation crosses that you had to plan? The most interesting part of a first-generation cross of anything is that the person doing the crossing, or breeding, has no idea what will result! So how can they guarantee that all the puppies in such a litter will have the genes to be hypoallergenic? Also, there are no studies on hip dysplasia in these cross-bred dogs. No one knows how the hip structure of a Golden Retriever will work with the hip structure of a Poodle. Sure - they are both canines, but both have been bred for years for a specific cause and to have specific breed characteristics.
